New to yoga? Start here

Love the sound of our trips but not sure if a yoga retreat is your thing?

You wouldn't be the first. It comes up a lot, and we get it.

The yoga world can sometimes feel a bit… insider-y. A bit image-led. A bit like you're either properly in the club or not at all. If your mental image is a room full of very bendy people doing very impressive things, we understand why that might feel off-putting.

That's not really how it feels on our retreats.

Yoga, But Not As You Know It

Yoga in a studio can feel like something you've slotted into your week between emails and errands. On retreat, it tends to feel like the point of everything else.

You're somewhere new. You've left your usual routine at home where it belongs. You've actually got the headspace to notice how you feel – which, if you're anything like most of our guests, might come as a mild surprise.

On most retreats it bookends the day: a morning session to wake things up, an evening one to let it all settle. A lot happens in between. The yoga holds all of it together.

And a big part of it is where it happens. A traditional Mongolian ger in the Gobi Desert. A hilltop nunnery in Bhutan, sometimes practising alongside the young nuns who live there — one of those moments you don't forget.

The yoga is what quietly threads it all together. You just happen to be doing it somewhere extraordinary.

What Our Guests Say

All levels welcome

Our groups are always a mix: people completely new to yoga, people who dip in and out, and people who practise regularly. There's no pressure to keep up, and no one's really paying attention to what anyone else is doing (and if they were, that would be a bit odd). You just do your version of it.

There may well be people on retreat who are strong and experienced — but that's not what the space is built around. For most people it becomes a stretch after a day outdoors, a bit of space to breathe, a chance to slow things down and arrive back in your body.

If you're newer to yoga, it can help to have tried a class or two beforehand, just so the format feels familiar. Most of our teachers also offer online classes, so that can be a nice way to ease in before you arrive.

yoga is for everybody (and every body)

Our retreats attract all kinds of people — different ages, different bodies, different backgrounds. Some have never touched a yoga mat. Some have been practising for years. Some are in their 30s, some in their 70s.

There's no type. And there's no particular way you need to be.

We're not about fancy headstands or showing off. What we are about is people feeling good. And a lot of that happens off the mat: in the chats over dinner, the shared experiences, the moments that catch you off guard in the best way.

That's yoga too.

in good hands

We only work with teachers who have years of experience, including leading retreats — people who know how to read a room, support beginners, and help more experienced practitioners go deeper.

It's often where people surprise themselves; finally finding a bit more ease, strength, or confidence in something that's never quite clicked before.

ALREADY PRACTICE?

Good news! If you already practise regularly, this is a chance to spend more time with an experienced teacher than you normally would — and that often feels quite different to a one-off class. Practising daily rather than once a week creates a different kind of shift, and the sessions are designed to meet you where you are.

There's also something about where it happens. Practising in the places we go tends to add a dimension that's hard to replicate in a studio.

Small Team,
Big Care

From start to finish, our small, friendly team takes care of every detail — keeping things hassle-free so you can settle in, switch off and soak up the wild.

Is the yoga optional?

Some mornings you might prefer a slower start — a lie-in, a coffee, a book in the sun. That's completely fine. This is your retreat, and you're free to take it at your own pace.

That said, moving through the rhythm of the retreat with the group (even if you're just quietly on your mat) is often what helps people feel more connected to the experience, the place, and each other.

Of course, there may be days where you need more rest or space, and that's always respected. There's no right way to do it, just what feels right for you.
