Discover Kolkata
We begin our journey in Kolkata, a city rich with history, culture and colour. Our first night is spent at the Fairlawn Hotel, a charming colonial-era property perfectly located for exploring the city.
After some time to rest, we’ll set out on a guided walking tour to discover Kolkata’s layered past and present. Depending on the day, this may include Sudder Street, the Indian Museum, Dalhousie Square, Mullick Ghat Flower Market and the Victoria Memorial.
Life at Glenburn Tea Estate
The following day, we leave the city behind and travel north by train and road to Glenburn Tea Estate, nestled in the foothills above Darjeeling.
Perched on a hillside overlooking the River Rungeet, with panoramic views of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain, Glenburn is a working tea estate dating back to the 1800s. Life moves at a slower pace here. The air is fresh, the hills roll endlessly into the distance and the scent of tea drifts through the mountain breeze.
Yoga with Jean Hall
Throughout the week, you’ll be guided by Jean Hall, known for her soulful slow flow and grounded presence.
Mornings begin in stillness, with a cup of Glenburn tea brought to your bedside so you can watch the sun rise over the mountains from the comfort of your room. After yoga and a leisurely breakfast on the lawn, the day unfolds at a gentle pace.
Tea, Trails and Mountain Villages
A guided tour of the 1,600-acre private estate introduces you to the craft of tea-making, from the fields to the factory, before ending with a tasting session showcasing the complex flavours of the region.
We’ll also explore the surrounding landscapes on foot with an experienced guide and naturalist, following trails through Bora Gaon village, the Simbong Forest and beyond. Along the way, there are sweeping views across Sikkim, Kalimpong and the valleys below.
Waterfalls and Wild Swimming
One day, we’ll walk through forest paths and villages to the beautiful Seven Sisters Waterfall. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to swim in crystal-clear pools before enjoying a traditional thali lunch at Glenburn Orchard.
A Day in Darjeeling
We’ll spend a full day exploring Darjeeling, the historic hill station sitting at 6,000 feet beneath the towering presence of Kanchenjunga.
Our day includes a ride on the UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, winding through the famous Batasia Loop to the towns of Ghoom and Kurseong. There will also be time to wander the Mall, browse local crafts, visit Das Studios, enjoy tea at Glenary’s or Keventers and soak up the atmosphere of this iconic mountain town.
Time to Rest
Alongside the activities and excursions, there is plenty of time to slow down and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the estate.
You may wish to book a massage or treatment, including full-body massages with Darjeeling Green Tea Oil, reflexology or a refreshing mint and chamomile foot soak, perfect after days spent walking and exploring the hills.
