Scotland Yoga & Wilderness Weekend

Jivamukti yoga & adventures in the Scottish Highlands

25-28 September 2020

Teacher: Emma Henry

Join Emma Henry for a wilderness weekend in Scotland in September. We are heading to the Cairngorms for an autumn Jivamukti eco-yoga retreat. Set on the edge of a sleepy village surrounded by ancient woodlands, winding rivers and dark lochs, our retreat location is surrounded by an Arctic-like mountain landscape, the wildest of its kind in Britain. Combine twice daily yoga with one of London’s most sought-after teachers with exploring the unique habitat and wildlife of the Scottish Highlands.

Our yoga weekend location is in the wilds of the Cairngorms National Park, voted one of the top 20 places to visit by National Geographic Traveller. You’ll sleep in 4 cottages nestled together in a peaceful dell and 3 very special private eco log cabins located on a nearby award winning sustainable homestead.

Jivamukti yoga classes take place in our heated tipi with senior teacher Emma Henry and our own retreat chef will create a delicious plant based menu.

On Friday we’ll enjoy brunch and then settle in, practice some yoga and explore our peaceful location, enjoying riverside walks, forest wandering or a scenic amble – slowing down and adjusting to our remote weekend home. On Saturday you’ll practice plenty of yoga and between classes you can book yourself a sauna session, relax under the trees in the outdoor hot tub or book in with the incredible Amanda Tizard, who will offer her blissful massages and healing work.

On Sunday we combine your yoga practice with an invigorating 4 hour guided hike in the National Park with an experienced local guide and conservationist. Powered by a delicious Sunday brunch we will  hike through Abernethy forest and up mountain paths, spotting wildlife along the way before reaching our 400m summit to enjoy magnificent views of the Cairngorm mountains. After a restorative class on Sunday evening we can relax by the fire and enjoy an early night and some deep rest.

After one last yoga class and a big breakfast on Monday, we will send you on your way home, replenished and energised for the change of season ahead.

Yoga with Emma Henry

Senior Jivamukti teacher Emma Henry will teach 6 classes over the weekend. You’ll have a 2 hour class on Friday evening, and 2 x 2.5 hour classes on Saturday. On Sunday morning you’ll practice for 2.5 hours before your hike and then relax with a restorative class at the end of the day. Our retreat ends on Monday morning with one final class.

Each Jivamukti class offers a dynamic asana practice that is infused with inspiring teachings derived from the ancient yogic texts. Classes will include chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation and meditation.

Modifications and progressions are given so that everyone will find these yoga classes rewarding but this retreat is not suitable for complete beginners. We recommend that you have previous experience of a flow class and enjoy being challenged by a dynamic style of yoga. It is a yoga style that will require you to commit to your classes. We have cosy accommodation in a 4 bedroom, a 3 bedroom and a 2 bedroom cottage as well as 1 private cottage. These cottages are set together in a peaceful private retreat on the edge of Nethy Bridge, also known as “The Forest Village’. We have twin, double and private rooms. Each cottage has a cosy lounge area and shared bathrooms.

We also have 3 very special off grid log cabins located 1 mile away in a remote forest retreat. These cabins are completely unique, nestled in a 6 acre oasis amongst ancient pines in the National Park. Choose from a bothy in the heart of the homestead, a woodman’s hut in the wildland or a luxury hide next to a stream.

These cabins are for those who truly want to experience being immersed in nature, with outdoor showers and state-of-the-art composting loo close by. Each cabin has a double bed with star gazing windows above.

The cabins are a 20 minute walk from the Dell cottages or the team will happily drive you between the two places when needed.
