Join Emma Henry for a mid-summer yoga retreat in Senja, Norway. Located in the Arctic Circle this remote destination offers a deep experience in wild nature with its dramatic mountains, crystal clear turquoise waters, white beaches and beautiful fjords. With 24 hour daylight there is plenty of time to enjoy the quiet beauty of this secluded paradise and experience the midnight sun, a prolonged sunset and sunrise all at once where everything is bathed in a magical reddish light.

Our yoga retreat destination is the north west coast Senja island, an incredibly beautiful part of Norway where steep, majestic mountains dive straight into the sea and pearly white beaches line a small archipelago of uninhabited islands.

You stay in luxury apartments set around the harbour of an old fishing village with uninterrupted views out to the surrounding islets and azure sea. Immerse yourself in a powerful Jivamukti yoga practice with twice daily classes and enjoy delicious vegetarian meals. Between classes relax in the jacuzzi and enjoy the views or get active and explore the wild nature all around.

Included in the yoga retreat is a day trip to Husfjellet mountain. We travel there by boat through the fjords and then hike together with our guide walking through wild nature and lush vegetation, pausing for a picnic lunch before heading to the top where you will find an amazing view over the surrounding mountains and out to sea.

There are also options to explore by kayak where the clear waters and many small islands make for a beautiful adventure. You can also head out by boat to one of the islands to enjoy in the midnight sun or hike up Sukkertoppen mountain. This is one of our more adventurous European yoga retreats and the best way to enjoy it is to get out and explore!

Yoga with Emma Henry

Senior Jivamukti teacher Emma Henry will teach daily yoga classes. Morning classes will be 2.5 hours and you’ll experience a strong Jivamukti practice. Afternoon sessions will be workshop style or more restorative.

Each Jivamukti class offers a dynamic asana practice that is infused with inspiring teachings derived from the ancient yogic texts. Classes will include chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation and meditation.

Modifications and progressions are given so that everyone will find these yoga classes rewarding but this retreat is not suitable for complete beginners. We recommend that you have previous experience of a flow class and enjoy being challenged by a dynamic style of yoga. It is a yoga style that will require you to commit to your classes.

Travel to Norway

You are heading to a remote location in north Norway so it will take a little time to get there! It is a fairly straight forward journey. Our suggested route is:

Arrival: Fly to Bardufoss via Oslo with Norwegian Air and transfer by road to our retreat location.

Departure: Take the ferry from Finnsnes to Tromso and then a flight from Tromso to Oslo.

Transfers: We will organise a group transfer from Bardufoss and to Finnsnes, the cost will be around £30 per person each way, depending on final numbers.

Air fares from London will be around £300 if you book early. Flight time from Oslo is just under 2 hours. The ferry cost is around £30 and takes just under 1.5 hours.

Full details on timings will be given when you book.

My first time in Norway and what an introduction! We stayed all the way up in the north, on Senja, which according to the Norwegians is the most beautiful part of the country. Absolutely the most special experience staying in the Arctic Circle with 24 hrs daylight. Besides the energizing, very creative Jivamukti yoga classes taught by one of the most inspiring senior teachers, Emma Henry, there was time for hiking, kayaking, soaking in a hot tub boat (!). For me as a fond photographer I just couldn’t stop taking pictures of the Norwegian nature and scenery, breathtakingly beautiful! And then there was the Midnight Sun. Impossible to put into words, its just pure magic sitting on a rock or standing on top of a hill watching the sun set and come up immediately. Thank you Jools for making this possible, taking care of us with so much dedication and giving us an experience to remember the rest if our lives 🙏🏼

Wonderful retreat! The scenery was spectacular and there were many opportunities for diverse activities and adventures. The Jivamukti practice, taught by Emma, was internally and externally transformational. I can’t recommend Jools and her team enough! Thank-you for a memorable time.

We signed up for the retreat to Norway within minutes of it becoming a reality. Jools had worked hard to ensure that our travel was memorable via the Hurtigruten along some of the most picturesque Norwegian waters. Five hours of revitalising yoga each day made us both more flexible and stronger. The weather is always unpredictable in Norway and this led to some schedule changes for some of the events – midnight sun hunting for example – which Jools communicated simply and easily. Everyone got the chance to take part in trips. Full marks to Jools for leading the week so practically for the benefit of all of us. She ensured the cohesion of the group whilst being kind and totally approachable.
