Come to Japan for a yoga retreat with senior Jivamukti yoga teacher Emma Henry. We are heading to the forested mountains in Northern Japan to immerse ourselves in a powerful spring-time combination of dynamic yoga, forest bathing, hot springs and temples.

Summary

We begin our Japan yoga retreat in an old mountain city before heading to the countryside surrounded by lush forests with views of the snow capped Northern Alps. During May this area is covered with chamomile in full bloom and wrapped in a sweet and gentle fragrance. We stay at a local farm with its own chamomile essence factory, where the products are used in the wood-fired thermal baths.

During our time here we practice Jivamukti yoga and experience shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) in a white beech forest. We will also visit a shrine for shinto (nature worship), meditate and practice shakyo calligraphy with the head priest at the local Zen temple and enjoy a cooking class with our head chef.  We travel further north to our second location to a remote and other-worldly place where we stay in forest cabins surrounded by an old beech forest. Here we enjoy a magical night hike, daily yoga and forest bathing with a forest therapy guide and spend our evenings in a charming hot spring village. We end our retreat in Nagano city, sleeping in a traditional Japanese ryokan very close the the famous Zenkoji temple.

I have been to two retreats with Jools, Emma and Reclaim Yourself so far – one to Mongolia and the other to Japan. Both were brilliant and I look forward to going again. These retreats are my best travels of the year and I keep memories of them with tenderness. Next year is already booked. It’s a great way to discover remote places on Earth, do something useful for the body and soul, reset mind and enjoy a company of amazing people.

Reclaim Your Self retreats are always great. Jools is an organisational genius, with the rare ability to make you feel taken care of without being crowded; and Emma is an insightful and compassionate teacher, as well as being hugely experienced.

Together they create retreats to inspirational places off the beaten track and Japan was no exception. Four days in the tranquility and natural beauty of Kyushu, followed by three days in historical Kyoto. Kyushu is very special. The yoga was exactly what I needed, the food was thoughtful, nourishing and tasty and the setting was breathtaking. I loved it and was sorry to come home.

It was many firsts for me on this retreat, first yoga, first organized trip, first time in a group… And start to finish was amazing. Jools and Emma build a fantastic team organizing everything on the outside and I came away feeling way more organized on the inside than I have in years ! Brilliant retreat, holiday, people and new found love for Japan. Massive thank you to everyone that looked after us on the way !

Not lost in translation (well, maybe a little bit) but lost in awe because of the mix of tradition and modern times; the food; the people; the care with which the Japanese hold space for nature and aesthetics. Combining this with the incredible care and attention of the team to find the best locations and activities to practice yoga, get to know Japan, eat traditional AND vegan Japanse delicate food, jump in the onsen, spend time together with an amazing group of yogis: Emma and Jools did it again! Expect a better, more beautiful, mind blowing yoga retreat than you’d ever imagined. Emma is the most creative, inspiring and attentive Jivamukti teacher and Jools is tying things together into an extraordinary yoga retreat in a magical country. Thank you!!

I have always wanted to visit Japan and I love yoga. This retreat by Reclaim Yourself is a perfect combination. Location of the retreat, accommodation, food and organised events were amazing. Everything went according to a plan thanks to Jools’ immaculate organisation.

Emma Henry is a great yoga teacher who not only teaches Jivamukti but also gives insight and explanation to different aspects of yoga.

This retreat is designed for people who want to explore new places, get new experiences, meet wonderful people and do yoga!!!

This was my 1st retreat with Reclaim Yourself but it definitely won’t be my last. Japan is a fantastic destination but the team is what made the whole trip so unforgettable. The combination of powerful Jivamukti yoga and delicious onsen bathing with immersion into Japanese traditions created a experience that is so much more than a typical retreat. Heartfelt thank you to Jools, Emma, our local guide Miwa and everyone who fed & watered us during our stay.

Jools and Emma have outdone themselves again!!! I’m on about my 100th retreat with them and every time I think “how can they top this?” But they do every time!!!
It goes without saying that the yoga with Emma is superb. And Jools is an organisational genius. The retreat space is held with ease and it’s a wonderful way to genuinely reclaim yourself.

Jools chooses her locations an the “non-yoga” activities with great care and it’s a privilege to be part of such unique experiences: tea ceremony, ikebana, remote temples and onsen, forests and mountains and metropolis. Everything chosen with care and to compliment the practice.

And with these retreats you know you are going to be with a great crew of like minded people from around the world.

I’m already booked in for next year.

Just amazing. This is my second Reclaim retreat and my second with Emma and it beat all my expectations. Great location in Japan, the right balance of yoga and exciting excursions with a great group of people from all over the world. The yoga was ace, a few personally challenging spots, Emma is a superb teacher and I loved every minute of the classes. I’ll be booking another retreat with Reclaim and Emma for 2019.
