Costa Rica Rainforest Retreat

A rainforest retreat in a remote tropical paradise

8-15 February 2020

Teacher: Emma Henry

Come to Costa Rica for a yoga retreat with Emma Henry at an enchanting eco-lodge set in 60 acres of tropical wilderness on the Osa Peninsula. Enjoy one of the most bio-diverse places on the planet and practice Jivamukti yoga on a spectacular platform with endless vistas over pristine rainforest and the majestic Pacific ocean.

We begin with a private charter flight to our remote location bordering the Corcovado National Park, taking in fantastic aerial views as we arrive at our secluded rainforest destination.

Our yoga retreat takes place at an idyllic eco-lodge beautifully situated high among the trees, with breathtaking views over a canopy of primary rainforest. We sleep in bungalows, haciendas and safari tents built with love to harmonise with the environment and practice twice daily yoga with Emma, a senior Jivamukti teacher who will be creating a potent and rewarding week of dynamic yoga, meditation, chanting and relaxation. Your sunrise morning classes take place while the vibrant rainforest wakes up around you, with the swirling mists clearing as the sun appears above the treetops.

Between your yoga classes relax on the deck absorbing the energy of the rainforest while spotting hundreds of rare birds and exotic animals or book massage at the open air spa. You can also enjoy the natural swimming pool or take a dip one of the 3 nearby waterfalls.

There are options to try surfing or kayaking and to book a guide to take you into the national park which is made up of 13 major ecosystems including rainforest and beaches. It is home to almost 400 species of birds, 140 species of mammals and over 500 species of trees.

Our retreat closes as we fly back to San José together and enjoy a night in lovely guest house in Cariari, close to the airport so that you are perfectly placed for your onward travel.

Jivamukti yoga

Emma Henry will teach twice daily yoga classes on one of the most stunning yoga platforms we have seen. Morning classes will be 2.5 hours and you’ll experience a strong Jivamukti morning flow practice. Afternoon sessions will be 90 minutes and will be a mixture of workshop style sessions, exploring aspects of your practice in detail and yin/relaxation sessions.

Each Jivamukti class offers a dynamic asana practice infused with inspiring teachings derived from the ancient yogic texts. Classes will include chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation and meditation.

Emma is one of the top Jivamukti teachers so you can be sure of feeling challenged and inspired to safely explore and deepen your yoga practice on this retreat.

Modifications and progressions are given so that everyone will find these yoga classes rewarding but we do recommend you have previous experience of a flow class and enjoy being challenged by a dynamic style of yoga. It is a yoga style that will require you to commit to your classes. Our lodge has been awarded a five-leaf eco-lodge rating from the Sustainable Tourism Commission.

We have 16 places available for this yoga retreat. All of the rooms have been created specifically to look as if they are part of the tapestry of the forest and are surrounded by a wonderful blend of natural landscaping and organic agricultural abundance.

Our location above the a river valley means a slightly cooler climate and a light ocean breeze. There is no stagnant water on the property so it is virtually mosquito-free.

We have 3 different types of accommodation – all options are simple but very comfortable with plenty of nice touches for extra comfort.

Our bungalows have either a king bed or two double beds, large windows and a high thatched-palm roof for ample air circulation. They also feature a private deck with a view and a private bathroom with shower and bathtub. The bungalows also have a lush private garden just off the shower, smoothing the transition to the rainforest outside, yet keeping it all protected with a handcrafted stone wall.

Our spacious hacienda style rooms have private baths and are designed to comfortably accommodate two with one double-bed and one single-bed.

Our “nature-lover” safari tents have two single beds or one double bed, a private bathroom with hot water, electricity, and a balcony overlooking the canopy of the rain forest. These simple but comfy safari tents have the best view on the property as they are situated at the top of the hill above the yoga platform.

Eco-friendly soap, shampoo and conditioner are available in each room, as well as a drying line for bathing suits and beach towels.
